The Learning Circle at Ipswich State High School is based on the concept of ceremonial sites and bora grounds. Tribal ceremonies and beliefs differ from place to place. The Learning Circle is a meeting place for Aboriginal dancers and performers and a place for students to watch and learn.

Earthen constructions often called bora rings are found throughout South-East Queensland and Northern New South Wales. They are often composed of two earthen rings, one large and one small, connected by a path which could be up to 500 metres long. Sometimes there are three bora rings.

The earth was scraped out of the centre forming a shallow dish, and placed in a circle, forming a ridge around the depression.

The bora ceremony is an initiation ceremony found in much of South-eastern Australia and relates to the Great Spirit Baiame
